Mission Impossible!

We just realized we never posted about our February 18th meeting! We are so sorry! The theme for that meeting was Spies! Shhhhhhhhhhh! After reading our story we jumped right into our activities. The first game we played was decoding. We hid clues all over the school and each team had to decode one hint to find the next spot. The first team back to the classroom won! the second game we played was a relay race. We split the kids into two groups and they had to pick out a disguise. One person started with the disguise, ran to the bin to turn in there "top secret  file", then ran back to their team to give the disguise to the next person. The first team to have everyone dress up and turn in there file won. The last game we played was hide and seek. And that is it!
(Unfortunately we do not have any pictures for this meeting.)

Happy Reading!

Here is the list of books that we have read so far in the Word Painters!

Update!

Attention! There was a typo on the calendar that was handed out in the packets. The next meeting will be on April 21st, not  the 17th. Thank you for your understanding and we apologize for our mistake. We hope to see everyone there!

Blast Off!

This week's theme was outer space! As always we started off with craft time and the kiddos made some awesome alien masks! After that we split the group into three teams and they had to find all eight planets that were hidden around the room and put them in order. The team who finished first was the winner. The last game that we played was "Don't drop the asteroid!" We all blew up balloons and had to balance them on their hands. Whoever dropped their balloon was out. And that completes the meeting! We all had a blast!

"Oh The Things You Can Think!" (March 3rd meeting)

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”- Dr, Seuss
Today was the day that we celebrated the amazing Dr. Seuss.  We started off with craft time in which the kiddos could choose from four different crafts to make; a Lorax mustache, "Horton Hears a Who" elephant ears, Red fish, blue fish coloring craft, and "Cat in the Hat" hat. After the craft we took "green eggs" (Easter eggs) and they had to match the tops and bottoms with the corresponding rhyming word. After each child  found ten rhyming words they created a poem that they presented to the class.  And that is it! Everyone had a blast!

Walk Like an Egyptian!

Welcome back Word Painters! We are so excited to be back! The theme was ancient Egypt and the kiddos had tons of fun! We put them into reading groups and they each picked a story that they recreated into hieroglyphics. We have a lot of little artists on our hands! Then they turned themselves into mummies! We finished off the day with everyone choosing a book, We hope everyone had fun! Don't forget, the next meeting is February 18th. See you then!
